medicare fraud sting. federal agents arrested people in baton rouge, brooklyn, chicago, dallas, houston, los angeles, and miami. the charges involve alleged treatment and services which were either not needed or in some cases never even provided. the u.s. attorney general says the fraud amounts to nearly $430 million in false billings. >> the total includes over $230 million in home health care fraud. more than $100 million in mental health care fraud. and approximately $49 million in ambulance transportation fraud. >> prosecutors say alpha ambulance in los angeles is responsible for the transportation fraud. four top people in the company were arrested because of this. two defendants allegedly instructed employees to document a reason for runs even if one didn't exist. under new penalties some defendants could face up to 20 to 50 years in prison. a film dramatizing the death of osama bin laden will debut next month on "national

geographic" channel. its debut timed to come just two days before the presidential election. s.e.a.l. team 6 the raid on osama bin laden is from the weinstein company and voltage films. the co-chairman harvey weinstein is a prominent fundraiser for the obama re- election campaign. the president of "national geographic" says the film's air date is not political. owens said the date was scheduled to start the channel 12 season. the u. n. security council condemned syria for shelling a town in turkey. it left five people dead and dozens more injured. >> this is the first time the full security council has agreed to a resolution against syria. the council said the attack on turkey points at how the battle in syria has an impact on the region. monica villamizar has more. >> reporter: turkey's parliament said it's not declaring war on its neighbor. the government can now send

parliament they chanted "we don't want war." syria assured world leaders there won't be another border incident. monica villamizar, cbs news. >> rebel groups have been using turkish territory as a base to take down government troops. d.c. police are investigating allegations that a guard sexually assaulted an inmate. sources tell wtop radio the guard allegedly removed an inmate from his cell in the d.c. jail, took him to an area with no security cameras and then sexually assaulted him. the sources also say a second guard witnessed the assault but didn't report it and according to w top sources a third guard witnesses and didn't report the incident. fairfax police released the sketch of a man wanted for fondling at least five women in springfield, virginia. the most recent attack was tuesday night on the avenue. the woman was groped in front of her daughter. the same street two weeks earlier another woman was groped and detectives believe

there cod be even more victims. they're asking anyone with information or who may have been attacked to please come forward. police in fairfax are also searching for a missing high school senior. investigators believe bryan glenn may be an endangered runaway. he was last seen on the school grounds of woodson high school on monday morning but didn't go to class. yesterday police returned to the park looking for clues. glenn's car was found there this week. inside detectives found a dunkin' donuts receipt. >> we nobly yank is out there. and we want -- know bryan is out there. and we want him to know that he's going to be okay and we're going to get him home. >> fairfax police call the disappearance unusual but not suspicious. the university of maryland college park is dealing with a bedbug infestation. >> the problem appears to be centered around south campus commons number 7. students

first began noticings them during the second week of school. ken molestina has more. >> this is like after the treatment happened still continuing to get bitten. >> reporter: she lives in one of the dorm style apartments that has been overcome by bedbugs. >> our apartment. >> reporter: this video shows the conditions they've been forced to live in. her and her roommate have had to put their belongings in bags, strip their beds of sheets and empty out entire closets of clothing in order to try and rid their rooms of the bedbugs. >> the bites would show up every morning. >> reporter: they say exterminators have been in the apartment several times but they keep waking up with bedbug bites. >> only after i found a bug in my room did they take action. >> reporter: during a phone conversation an out of town spokesperson says two separate units have been affected in building 7. he cited it was not in their protocol to disclose that information publicly. however, he did say they were alerted to the problem in late september and described the bedbug issue as an increasing

patrol agent killed earlier this week died from friendly fire. nicholas ivie and two other agents came under attack in arizona on tuesday morning. at this point there's no word yet on why friendly fire is being considered a pocket but the news -- possibility but the news comes with word from mexican police they have arrested two people in connection with the shooting. one of charles manson's followers has been recommended for parole. on the eve of his 70th birthday. bruce davis was convicted with manson for the murders of two musicians and he's been in prison since 1972. a parole board determined in 2010 davis was ready for release. but then governor arnold schwarzenegger reversed that decision. governor jerry brown has the final say on decisions by the current parole board. mechanics in american airlines will begin fixing those seats that were coming loose in some of its planes. 48 of its 757s had issues with

experts think contained fungal meningitis. >> just sort of thought okay we're going to research this. and of course the more i researched it, the more worried i get. >> reporter: manurer is one of 400 patients who got a call from a tennessee clinic saying they may have been exposed to fungal meningitis. it's not contagious. the outbreak was discovered two weeks ago in tennessee where 18 cases have been reported and there are also a handful of cases in virginia, maryland, florida and north carolina. four victims have died. all got sick after getting steroid injections most for back pain. >> we have not seen anything like this where a medication injected into the spinal fluid has caused infection. so we're in new territory here. >> reporter: meningitis is an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness and fever.

the incubation period is between two and 28 days so there may be some people who are infected but don't know it yet. >> these symptoms are not as dramatic and they come on gradually. >> reporter: sue manor is hopeful she stays healthy. >> i'm sort of trying not to you know, think of it as being possibly me. in a day or two. >> reporter: and if she starts to feel any symptoms she'll call the hospital right away. have knee that fire for cbs news, new york. >> it's issued a recall last week and has shut down the operations. there's a new study out that shows free birth control can lower the number of unplanned pregnancies and abortions. researchers at washington university school of medicine gave 9,000 women free birth control for four years. now during that time the abortion rates for that group were up to 78% lower than the national arch. researchers say -- average. researchers say about 50% of

all u.s. pregnancies unplanned. teenagers who smoke are more likely to die of heart disease later in life even if they eventually quit. a new study in the journal of american college of cardiology followed 28,000 men for 30 years after college. they found that those who smoked and then quit in the middle age still had a 29% higher risk of dying from heart disease. the odds were worse for the men who never quit. their risk of dying early from heart disease doubles. a study in the new england journal of medicine finds that wrinkle fighter can calm an overactive bladder. researchers found more than 250 women with incontinence for six months they found a one time botox injection in the bladder reduced the urge to go to the bathroom as well as did a daily prescription pill. for many of the women their incontinence completely went away. time right now is 4:53 which makes it time for the question of the morning --
